Dr. Julie A. Lipovsky

Dr. Julie A. Lipovsky is a licensed clinical psychologist and a former Professor of Psychology at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. She received her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and her masters and doctoral degrees from the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the the University of Florida.
Dr. Lipovsky completed a post-doctoral fellowship in sexual assault research at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was on the faculty at MUSC’s Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center from 1988 – 1993.
Dr. Lipovsky directed The Citadel’s Clinical Counseling program from 1993 – 2003.
Dr. Lipovsky has authored or co-authored more than 20 publications relevant to child abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and helping child witnesses navigate the legal system. She has made over 100 presentations at state, regional, and national conferences.
Dr. Lipovsky has received several teaching awards, including The Citadel’s James C. Self Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in 1997. She is board certified in Clinical Psychology and in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
Dr. Lipovsky is Co-founder and Clinical Director of Lowcountry Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (LEAP), a non-profit organization providing equine-assisted psychotherapy to children, youth, adults, and families in the Lowcountry. Her current research is examining the effectiveness of equine-assisted psychotherapy.
Dr. Lipovsky teaches courses on Abnormal Behavior/Psychopathology, Multicultural Awareness, Personality Disorders, and applications of counseling techniques.
