Dr. Al S. Lovvorn is a Professor of Strategic Management. Teaching Strategic Management to undergraduates and Global Business Strategy to graduate students is his passion. His primary research interests are CEO turnover, international strategic management issues, and organizational theory. Twice he has received Case of the Year honors from the CASE Association for research he and his coauthors have conducted on firms. With the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, he serves as the Academic Advisor for Foxtrot Company (F-Troop); this is a role he has proudly maintained since 2007.
Dedicated to expanding rigorous strategic thinking, Dr. Lovvorn provides strategic training at senior executive and mid-level executive ranks for numerous firms. Some of his interactions with the professional world include Cummins International, Regions Financial, Sallie Mae, W.L. Gore, and Nitto Americas. His consulting work has taken him from the United States to Germany, India, and Australia.
Dr. Lovvorn is a retired U.S. Navy Commander. During his 23 years of active duty, Dr. Lovvorn served as a Surface Warfare Officer in frigates, destroyers, the battleship WISCONSIN, and aircraft carriers. He and his wife lived in Yokosuka, Japan for three years where he served as the Director, Underway Training/Operations Officer for the ships in Japan.
