Free room and board for ROTC scholarship recipients, plus an additional year of free tuition for those who qualify
The Citadel’s Service to Country Scholarship 2026 represents potential savings of up to $68,000 for ROTC Scholarship recipients, with free room and board.
The Citadel, named the #1 Public College in the South, will now cover the cost of room and board for incoming freshmen enrolling for fall 2022. The Citadel offering free room and board gives more students access to quality education.

The education of many cadets in the Corps is funded through the financial support of ROTC Scholarships from the Air Force, Space Force, Army, Navy and Marines.
“The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship 2026 reflects the college’s commitment to educate and develop America’s next military officers through the unmatched leadership training experience here,” said The Citadel President, Gen. Glenn M. Walters, USMC (Ret.), ‘79.
Approximately one-third of each graduating class at The Citadel accepts commissions to become military officers at graduation, though it is not a requirement.
How do I qualify for The Citadel Service to Country Scholarship 2026 or for an ROTC Scholarship?
The Citadel admissions team and ROTC detachments leaders are ready to help guide you through this process for enrolling for the 2022-23 academic year. Here are the steps:
- Apply for, and be awarded, an ROTC Scholarship
- Apply and get accepted to The Citadel to matriculate as a cadet-recruit in August 2022
- Maintain a 2.5 minimum grade point average during your time as a student in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets

One year tuition for one academic year to supplement three-year ROTC Scholarships (estimated)
