Freshman Year
- Explore interests and career paths (check out resources available through Career Center)
- Discuss academic plan with mentor and advisors to
- map out coursework
- discuss summer opportunities for internships
- find a research project you can work on
- investigate study abroad options
- Attend office hours, ask questions and cultivate meaningful relationships
- Get involved in a campus activity or community organization and volunteer
- Begin researching scholarships to find best matches to your interests, career goals and experience
- Be informed!
Sophomore Year
- Review and update goals
- Create resume (your goal is to fill it out!)
- Choose to take most advanced courses for your major and challenging electives
- Meet as often as possible with your DSP mentor and develop professional network
- Read scholarly works in your field and be conversant on matters of current interest
- Stay involved in campus and community organizations and document your leadership and impact
- Use the summer travel requirement to study abroad and pursue interesting activities to broaden your horizons and demonstrate your intellectual curiosity and depth
- Use the summers to pursue research opportunities, internships and community projects that demonstrate your initiative and leadership skills
- Review scholarships by discipline and other criteria and select programs you are interested in applying for
Junior Year
- Attend any info sessions and/or workshops for specific scholarships you are applying for
- Continue with academic goals and community engagement activities as outlined above
- Pursue summer study abroad, research opportunities as outlined above
- Applications for Fulbright, Churchill, Gates, Marshall, Mitchell and Rhodes Scholarships start in the spring of junior year and are submitted during summer year
- Solicit strongest recommendations to support your applications
Senior Year
- As a senior you are eligible to apply for scholarships.
- Keep up your academic studies and research, as well as campus engagement and community service
