What is CSI?
CSI (The Citadel Success Institute) is a summer transitional program that helps students get a head start in preparing academically, physically, and socially for cadet life at The Citadel.
Who is eligible to attend the CSI program?
Any incoming Citadel student who has been academically accepted and medically cleared may attend CSI.
How do I Register for CSI?
All academically accepted Citadel students will need to submit the online registration form to reserve a space in the CSI program.
How can I secure my spot for CSI?
Your completed Registration form will reserve your spot for CSI; students must first receive medical clearance to attend The Citadel. If you have specific questions or concerns about the medical clearance process or your status, please contact The Citadel Infirmary at 843-953-6847.
How can I make payments for CSI?
Once your portal credentials are available at the end of April, you will receive them via email and will then be able to log into Lesesne Gateway, view your bill, and pay the CSI fee. CSI bills will be generated after the student is placed into classes. If you have any questions, please call us at 843-953-5155, or email CSI@Citadel.edu.
What is the daily schedule like during CSI?
The weekday schedule runs from 5:30 to 22:00 to include: physical training, followed by breakfast, academic classes, lunch, study hall, intramurals, dinner, cadet life lessons, free time/rest, and bed checks.
Do students leave on the weekend?
Students have organized and supervised leave on weekends including: team building and leadership activities, service projects, and opportunities to explore Charleston. Curfew is enforced during both weekdays and weekends.
Do the students wear uniforms?
No. Students wear civilian clothes during CSI consisting of khakis and provided CSI T-shirts.
What classes are offered during CSI?
Every CSI student is required to take LDRS 101, further requirements are dependent upon the student’s intended major. Courses offered are listed on the CSI Academic page of The CSI website.
Is CSI just like knob year?
CSI does not recreate the experience of knob year. Instead, the program serves as a transition between the student’s life in high school and The Citadel’s unique environment. For example…
- CSI students do not wear uniforms like cadets, but they are required to follow a specific dress code.
- CSI students do not earn punishments like cadets, but they do follow an accountability system in which they could be sent home after a certain number of violations.
How can I communicate with my student during CSI
Each CSI student has a Citadel post office box, which serves as the student’s mailing address during CSI and thereafter.
Students may use their cell phones during their designated “free-time” and in the barracks. They may take their cell phones to class, but they must be on vibrate or silent and kept in their bags during class.
Each CSI student is assigned a Citadel email address, which they will use while attending The Citadel for four years. Students are required to check their Citadel email account daily for important information and announcements.
Due to students busy schedules, phone calls are difficult for students, but they can respond to personal emails during their free time.
What should I bring my belongings in?
Your luggage should be reasonably-sized (i.e., not take up the entire room). A bin, suitcase, or a trunk is fine as long as it is about 3’ tall/wide at most. Big bags are the best option because they can easily be stowed under the bed.
